Dalood is a label for It girls not interested in showy street style kitsch. The key to Dalood’s popularity hinges on its embellished denim jackets and jeans. The brand’s denim is a recognizable and affordable hit item—a feature that many designers in developing countries lack. (The material has also allowed Dalood to become internationally recognized; it is currently sold at Farfetch.) This season the denim came in a light wash on worn-backward jackets with tiny beaded floral designs—cute, simple, and no fuss. Sequined dresses boasting shimmering watercolor effects were winners, but they didn’t have the casual, easy-buy appeal of the denim pieces. Maybe Dalood can grow its hits beyond denim or put some variation into the signature for next season. LIANA SATENSTEIN (Vogue.com)
Fall Winter 2017
“The purpose of art is to make dreams.” This season, Dalood is all about dreams and mystery. Working the shadow-land and stepping between fantasy and reality dominates this collection. The narrative for this season's collection lies equally in both: fabrics and their embellishments. Floating in a dreamy and yet perceivable manner with long wavy, sparkly silk fabric romantic dresses, modern-day princess characters oscillate smoothly between their masculine and feminine sides. The ankle-long fairy-tale capes with hoods and arm slits, crowned with masterful embroidery materialize the fantasy world that Dalood has created this season. The unexpected exposure of the sublime romance between black velour and white satin, the playful variations of different shades of purple, grey, camel and blue, animating them with golden and purple embellishments, express and underline the importance of harmonious combinations of fabrics, shapes and colors. This collection rediscovers the blending styles and clashing textures that seem so balanced and matching. The designer’s attempt to unite strength and romance is successfully achieved by introducing the over-the-knee, rough leather, fully laced flat boots that carry the collection as a leitmotif. This moves the feel of the collection closer to the ground and amplifies the effect with boldness, reality and strength. Broad-shouldered, double-breasted thick woolen suits and bleached, stonewashed embroidered jeans add a noticeable edge, making the collection vivid and characterful. Dalood's famous and most iconic embroideries have never felt so in tune with the spirit of the collection. The mysterious, playful rooster (full of colour and character) with beautifully modelled, graceful peacock and the most popular, undefeated dragon draw the most fashionable (although blurred) transition line between the real and the imagined, thus mirroring the harshness and the truth of the main story.
