“Feminist: a person who believes in the social, economic, and political equality of the sexes. Forget the history of the word and the baggage it carries and think of the idea of it.” - Chimamanda Nagozi Adichie. It was only a matter of time before the #MeToo movement trickled down to Tbilisi, Georgia. In her showroom, Dalood designer Maka Kvitsiani spoke passionately about a recent law that makes it easier for women to report domestic abuse. Maka also made sure to note that Dalood is mainly female-run. - LIANA SATENSTEIN (Vogue.com)
WOMEN FOR WOMEN
Fashion always reflected society and culture of its time, therefore, this season, Dalood has channeled all its capabilities, strengths and experiences to fully celebrate and reflect upon the invincible power of women. As the creative director Maka describes: “Dalood’s FW18/19 collection is a reaction and shout out to those heartbreaking stories that made the positive change possible. Despite the negativity, those incredible women, who have come out on the other side and have found the strength to share their pain, are the most powerful winners, therefore this collection celebrates each and every win, the name of the collection “women for women” was also chosen after this idea. Throughout its existence, Dalood has always tried to support women. Every day, these exceptional ladies join their forces, their talents, hard-work and intelligence to empower not only themselves but every single woman that they like to dress. Consequently, this season, Dalood was determined to deliver a creative project that was fulfilled only by women, even ordering shoes to a women-run company and booking female glam squad for hair and make-up. In addition, hiring three amazingly talented girls, Free University students: Nini Khabazi, Tekla paichadze, elene kvimsadze and Teo Maspindzelashvili, to design the art installation for the fashion show setting, highlighting Dalood’s fashion aesthetics, as well as adding warmth and a positive note to the collection. Incorporating all of the above mentioned, Daloods FW18 collection is filled with positive vibes - it is colorful, strong minded and celebratory. Confidently drop-down, bright red dresses and skirts, long capes, embroidered sweaters, reveal their beauty through free, unrestrained movement and underline the collection’s purposefully elegant, femininely proud and clam attitude. While, wool blazer dresses, high-waist soft pleated trousers, pleated skirts, loose fitted red and checked suits and oversize jackets bring out the strength and authority. Summarizing with eccentric and fun embroidered denim.
